Ragin’ Raisin Postponed

We’ll get straight to the point – due to some issues in planning and coordinating, the race promoters for the Ragin Raisin Dirt Classic have had to postpone the dirt-road race originally scheduled for April 16.

To make everything work and come together successfully, the April 16th date unfortunately was pushed back. Various different complications arose, and since both Tree Fort Bikes and Wild Side Events want this to be a stellar event through and through from the start, it has been evident that the 16th is just too soon for everything to run smoothly. HUGE apologies from us and WSE for this – we were really looking forward to it and know you were too!  If you had already registered and are curious about your refund, please contant Wild Side Events through their webpage, raisinragin.com.

So whats ahead in the future?

  • Ragin Raisin – As of yet there is not a date for set for the Ragin Raisin, but we’ll keep you posted.
  • Local Dirt Road Rides – Weekly Ann Arbor dirt road rides are Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m., with weather permitting. Call us at 734.484.9999 or email for details and meeting spots.   Rides are 20+ miles at moderate pace on local gravel roads.  In icy conditions, studded tires are highly recommended.
  • Thursday Night Trail Rides – Once trails become ridable and sustainable (hopefully within a month?) Thursday night Ann Arbor trail rides will resume, meeting in Fuller Park at 6:30 pm.  Call us at 734.484.9999 or email to be put on the Thursday night mailing list.

The Offices of Tree Fort – Office 3: Lawrence

Lawrence is our head graphic designer.  He led a vital role on the redesign of our website, as well as promotional materials, shirts and jerseys, this very blog, and basically everything that has “Tree Fort Bikes” on it.

Lawrence’s office is located near our shipping area, conveniently placed next to Jess office (photographer), Scott’s office (programmer), and Dag’s bed (resident dog).  His office is a really comfortable space, with a huge monitor to work with and tons of tech toys to keep any graphic designer happy.  Check out Lawrence’s cozy office, complete with ceiling lights, angled walls, and not one, but TWO bags of cheese curls!

Cabin Fever

The snow has been piling down in these parts over the past week – it came down so heavy that UPS couldn’t even ship any of our packages last Wednesday.  Don’t get me wrong, the CX skiing has been fantastic, but most of us here are itching for dirt and can’t wait to ride a bicycle in the woods.  Until then, studded tires it is.

We recently got a big batch of the new Maxxis Ikon 29er tires (and 26 inch here), and I can’t wait to try them out.  Low knobs on the center and sides for fast rolling, but widely spaced for superior grip that won’t get packed up. It’s a tease seeing these tires hanging on the wall when there is two feet of snow out there. 

The Ikons will be replacing my Kenda Small Block 8’s this spring when racing season comes around.  Expect a hefty review on them around then.  But until things warm up and dry up, studded tires it is.

We’re pumped about the Ragin’ Raisin Dirt Classic.  A brand new race for 2011, the Ragin’ Raisin is east Michigan’s premier dirt road race. Use any bike you want on this killer course that tours Manchester’s unique and occasionally treacherous dirt roads.

The Offices of Tree Fort – Office 2: Ben

Our next office feature is Ben’s cave. Ben is widely knowledgeable on vintage bikes, and is the go-to mechanic when we get questions about old stuff. Ben’s roles include:

  • Customer service
  • Returns and exchanges
  • Repairs and service
  • Scaring small children

Ben’s office is a venture back in time to the old days of Tree Fort. It’s one of our oldest offices and offers a rich history. Originally it was a dressing room. Then it became a storage closet. Now it’s Ben’s office. It’s now way messier than it ever was when it was a closet.
