Surly Krampus – Interbike 2012 (Video)

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

Don’t worry, it’s not another wheel standard, it’s more of a wheel optimization for a particular type of mindset. The Surly Krampus introduces “29+” to the discussion. It’s still a 29″ wheel but uses a wider rim and 3″ tire, while still using standard 73mm BB shell, 135mm spaced rear end and other standard mountain bike parts. The purpose, to kill all terrain in it’s way. No, really, it’s for slaying the knurliest terrain you can find. Don’t believe me, watch the video and let Surly tell you themselves.

White Industires 11-speed hubs

New for 2013, White Industries has created the T11 hub. It’s a all new hub body design which looks a bit different from previous offerings, but it retains the same internals we’ve all come to love. The freehub body is titanium and compatible with the new 11-speed standard. Despite the freehub body being longer in length, they managed to keep the weight the same as previous models with a little extra machining. These hubs are backwards compatibable with 8/9/10 speed systems and will be offered in Shimano or Campy styles. Still made in the US, it’s clearly labeled with CNC machined labeling to show your national pride. They are set to come in the standard black and polished silver. (more…)

Topeak @ Interbike 2012

On the heels of the iPhone launch, Topeak has introduced their new DryBag 5. While not being claimed as a specific bag for the new iPhone, it certainly is designed with just the right dimensions.  It will also fit the Samsung GalaxysIII as you can see from the photo. Using a ultrasonic sealed seam, this roll-top style bag will keep your data dry while you ride. Using the same style mount as Topeak’s popular RideCase, it can be mounted to the stem or to the handlebar with the optional adapter. Also introduced was the DryBag 4. Both of these bags are welcomed additions as previous generation Dry phone bags from Topeak were for iPhones only.

Küat Rüfee

Küat has gained a lot of momentum over the last two years with their widely popular NV rack. In fact, in 2011 it was given a “Gear of the Year” award from Men’s Journal. Next up is the Rüfee. Right out of the box, this rack can do just about all of it. It’s adaptable for 9, 15 or 20mm forks, features special security bolts to keep it on your car, disc compatible and has a built in lock. Oh, and they are currently working with Salsa Cycles to carry fat bikes. I don’t think you could ask for anything else from a roof rack. (more…)
