Niner Bikes Cogalicious RDO Ti Cog total kit weight 62 grams

This week, stock arrived for the all-new Niner Bikes’ Cogalicious RDO Ti Cog. Designed for top-end performance, the kit features a machined Ti cog, aluminum spacers and aluminum lock ring.

The cog is spec’d at 26 grams, but our sample weighed 28 grams; the complete kit weighs in at 62 grams. Niner provides enough spacers of various widths to let you fine-tune the cog position. Tooth position on the cog is thoughtfully designed, too — the teeth are offset just a hair to allow you to flip it and dial-in that fit just a little better. (more…)

A large number of brands have been spec’ing them OEM and customers have been buying everything we can get our hands on. Let’s take a look at what’s new for 2013. Make sure to check out some of our other coverage from last week.

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

Here’s a look and a few words from the folks at Stan’s No Tubes. It’s good to hear that they’ll be supporting all wheel sizes across their entire product line. 26″, 29″ and the rapidly gaining 650b. It’s reassuring to know you can get the same wheel and performance no matter what size you run.

Gus Hemingway, a Foundry Broadaxe and a New Trail

Monday, September 17th, 2012

Recently we paid a visit to Hillsdale, Michigan to present Gus Hemingway with his brand new Foundry Cycles Broadaxe. Joining us was Foundry sales rep and Michigan native, Jeff Buerman. We were presenting Gus with his new Foundry bike as part of the Foundry Cycles Tradesman program that they launched earlier this year. After a quick photo op and some on camera initial thoughts, we sent Gus out for a quick loop on the Hemingway Trail at Hayden Park otherwise referred to as “H2″ by the local riders. (more…)

Whisky Parts Co. 2013 Preview @ Saddle Drive ’12

Monday, August 6th, 2012

tf-img_1939 Showcased at the front of the Whisky booth during Saddle Drive was the new no. 9 fork. The no. 9 is Whisky’s innovative new disc carbon road/cross fork that uses a shortened version of Rock Shox’s 15mm Maxle system. The new thru axle design will help stiffen up the fork and give riders more confidence in descents and during out-of-the-saddle standing efforts. The Maxle will also help reduce the stress on the fork caused by disc brakes. Whisky forks are built in a three part layup that is purpose built to offer stiffness and structure near the thru-axle, compliance and absorption in the center of the blades and an extra solid crown design for durability and added stiffness.

Foundry Launch Party Recap

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

With the public introduction back in December, last night was our chance to celebrate Foundry Cycles. We were fortunate to be able to pull Jason (Foundry Brand Manager) and Rob (Foundry Sales Manager) away from the everyday routine for a night of talking about bikes over beer and nachos. It was a great opportunity for the local market to finally get to see the bikes up close and in person and meet just a few of the folks who have made it possible. In addition to the bikes, Whisky Parts Co. was kind enough to send along some new production handlebars, seat posts and forks for everyone to drool over. And Honey Stingers was gracious enough to send along waffles for the Jarod Toss.

Foundry Cycles Launch Party at The Angry Catfish Bike and Coffee Bar

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Foundry Launch at The Angry Catfish Bike & Coffee Bar Last week we headed over to Minnesota for the official Foundry Cycles Launch Party at The Angry Catfish Bicycle and Coffee Bar. This was the official consumer introduction for the brand. On hand was a selection of the offerings from Foundry for 2012.

Foundry Cycles is a new high end performance carbon brand that is geared towards the rider who is about the ride, and needs the proper tools to succeed. We had a great introduction of the brand at the Saddle Drive event back in July and again in September at Interbike. The event had a great turn out with a lot of interest in the brand. Look for some big news coming a little later this week. (more…)

Brooks B17 Leather Saddle

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Brooks B17 Standard with Black Rails A great deal of reviews have been posted all over the Internet for these saddles. Handmade in England, Brooks has been in the saddle business since 1866., almost as long as the bicycle as been around. One thing that speaks volumes about this saddle is how it’s presented on their site. They have a column for unsolicited testimonials and a column for unfiltered criticisms. If that type of presentation doesn’t sell it self I don’t know what will. The same holds largely true for our site as well. The reviews left by folks are always what sells.

The B17 is the flagship standard and has been on the market for over 100 years. It comes in options for the ladies as well as the men. There is also a “Special” version which features copper rivets as well as a Titanium version which makes use of ti rails and hand hammered copper rivets.

Like most of the Brooks saddles, and any find leather good, it takes a while to break these in and find the long perfect shape. Being leather, that’s exactly what it does, it conforms to you as it breaks in! Some folks feel that it breaks in after just a few rides, where many find that a longer break in period is needed.

The B17  Standard Men’s saddle has measurements of 275mm length, 175mm width, 65mm height and weighs in at 520g. It’s ideal for long distance sport touring with many using it for trekking and mountain biking as well.

Unless you’re vegan like several of our staff members, more than likely you’ll enjoy the ride of this saddle. If the above usage doesn’t quite cover your intended use, worry not. They have a wide range of saddles that should fit just about every cycling need. Check it out here.

Foundry Cycles – Interbike 2011

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

tf-_mg_4838 Foundry Cycles was introduced at Saddle Drive earlier this year, but stepped into the Vegas spotlight for its big stage debut at Interbike. A high quality, high performance, non-pretentious brand for those of us who dimply ride and ride hard. Designed around an ideal, Foundry is for those looking to ride without waving a flag of European designer trends and neon monstrosities that roll through the Tour de France. With a mantra of “It’s a tool, not a trophy”, it’s easy to know you’re not going to get hype and bull. The names of the bikes are indicative of the character they bring to the table. Upon first glance, most people see a no logos, no decals that scream “here I am”, but simply something built for a purpose. (more…)
